mechanical or hydraulic tensioner?

Which is best? Cams are Stage 3 Crower 3/4 w/matching springs and a Gates racing belt. The hydraulic certainly looks to be easier to set, but I already have a Litens new in the box.

Does your Litens have the bushing in it? If so use it.

It has no bushing. I thought it should be ground down anyway? Read that somewhere on the .org..

Read my input in this thread

This is the complete install thread neatly compiled by Case. This also has info from an Engineer at Litens about Hydraulic vs. Mechanical

I'd read Greg's comments on the hydraulic. Greg knows all.

even though they went to the spring tensioner on everything else in the 2000's, they continued to use it on the high speed 2.0 DOHC
engine (Euro)
Hydraulics simply do a better job of dampening- think of a vehicle's suspension system, or a door closer/regulator.

No one on the b .org could recall a hydraulic failing ...

Looks like I will be making bushings for the two upper bolts, the holes look to be the same size- too big. So the tension is set with only the two lower bolts in place or should I use two temporary (shorter) upper bolts to set the tension?
